ABOUT THE ARTIST
Maria Falidi was born in Australia and spent most of her life in Greece, where she currently resides with her family. A creative soul at heart, she embraced fine arts more passionately later in life, drawn to the alchemy of colors, textures, and emotions.
Mostly self-taught, she immersed herself in the world of traditional and mixed media, refining her craft through an intensive program at the Milan Art Institute, where she graduated successfully. Her studies there helped her transition from realism to a more abstracted expressive, mixed media style she was always destined to explore—one that blends depth, emotion and a touch of mystery!
ARTIST STATEMENT
My art is an invitation—an exploration of presence, soul, and the unseen forces that shape us. Guided by intuition, I weave together layers of texture, movement, and emotion, seeking not just to capture a subject, but to unveil its essence.
Each painting I create is a one-of-a-kind work of art, brought to life through an intricate, hand-layered process using archival paints and a unique combination of materials. No two pieces can ever be reproduced, as every layer builds upon the last in an organic, intuitive journey. This process takes time—allowing the artwork to evolve, revealing its depth, emotion, and story. Each piece is not just a painting but a soulful expression, infused with meaning and created to inspire. Crafted with longevity in mind, my work is made to be cherished for generations
While my work is often recognized for its expressive mixed media female portraits, with a deep desire to depict a mix of strength, vulnerability and kindness my creative path is fluid. I move between abstraction and realism, blending pastels, charcoal, acrylics, and unconventional tools like palette knives and brayers. Some pieces emerge through delicate mark-making, others through bold, textured gestures—but all are connected by a desire to reveal the positive energy within.
Whether painting the depth in a human gaze, the quiet wisdom of an animal, or the soul of a landscape, my work is a conversation between the tangible and the unseen. It is not bound by a single form but by a devotion to transformation, discovery, and the raw beauty of existence.
